Castleton uses balanced attack to dispatch Lynx 60-52

Cambridge, MA-Junior guard LeeAnne Ketchen led nine different Spartans in the scoring column with 12 points as Castleton State College defeated Lesley University 60-52 in North Atlantic Conference action.

Castleton trailed by as many as 12 in the first half as the Lynx, fueled by the largest home-crowd in school history, jumped out to an early 17-5 lead. The Spartans then outscored their guests 20-10 to enter halftime trailing 27-25. Jess Banks scored seven of her nine points during the run to lead the way.

The Spartans opened the second half on an 11-0 run and took a nine-point lead midway through the half. The lynx answered with a run of their own, including a five-point spurt by senior guard Courtnie Leakeas that included her 1,000th career point. Leakeas ended the game with 11 points.

In the end it proved to be too much Castleton balance as Mary Nienow joined Ketchen in double-digits with 10 points. Banks added seven rebounds, two assists and five steals while Ketchen hauled in six boards of her own.

Freshman Kaitlyn Wecshler scored a game-high 13 points and had six rebounds for the 8-7 (3-3 NAC) Lynx.

Castleton improves to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference, and will take on Wheelock on January 26 at 4:00 pm. [Box Score]
