Castleton picks up NAC win, 65-44 over Maine-Farmington

Castleton, VT-Junior guard Jessica Banks scored 13 points and dished out eight assists to lead the Castleton State College women’s basketball team to a 65-44 win over Maine-Farmington.

Castleton raced out to a 34-23 halftime lead, holding the Beavers to just 30.8% shooting from the field, while shooting 48% on the offensive end. The Spartans also canned 7 of 15 from beyond the three-point arc to gain the early edge.

Caitlyn Laflin scored 11 of her game-high 16 points in the second half as Farmington made an early run, trailing by single digits early on in the final stanza. Castleton once again turned up their defensive intensity and went on a late run to push the lead back to double-digits to seal the win.

The Spartans held Farmington to 23.4% (11-47) shooting from the field, and out-rebounded the Beavers 40-24 for the game.

Mary Nienow and Erinn O’Rourke each added 11 points as Castleton improves to 8-6 (4-1 NAC), as they won for the seventh time in eight games.

Erin Johnson chipped in 10 points for 6-8 (3-2 NAC) Farmington.

Castleton will travel to Lesley University on Friday, January 25 for an 8:30 pm NAC tip-off. The Beavers will take on NAC foe, Husson on January 22 at 7:30 pm. [Box Score]
