Castleton handles Wheelock 61-25 on the road
Chestnut Hill, MA-Junior guard Mary Nienow scored a game-high 16 points on 6-7 shooting (4-5 from three-point land) as Castleton State College cruised to a 61-25 victory over Wheelock College in North Atlantic Conference play.
The Spartans placed 10 different players in the scoring column, as Wheelock (2-13 (1-7 NAC)) was outmatched from the onset. Castleton shot 54% from the floor in the first half to take a commanding 35-11 lead into the halftime break.
Castleton, currently ranked 14th in the country in scoring defense (51.8 points per game) limited the Wildcats to 16% shooting from the field and 10% from the three point line while forcing 22 turnovers.
Laura Cary joined Nienow in double-digits with 12 points for the 10-6 (6-1 NAC) Spartans. Stephanie Bell and Megan Johnson each had solid performances off the bench, contributing eight points, seven rebounds and eight points, six reboudns respectively.
Sarah Brown led Wheelock with 11 points.
Castleton returns to NAC action on Tuesday, January 29 for a 7:30 pm tip-off at Johnson State. [Box Score]
