Castleton drops fourth-straight 58-45 at Western New England
Springfield, MA-Junior guard, LeeAnne Ketchen scored a team-high 22 points, but it wasn't enough as the Castleton State College women's basketball team fell to 1-5 on the season with a 58-45 loss at Western New England College.
Senior guard Jen Dabrowski scored
18 of her game high 27 points in the second half to lead the Golden Bears to the non-conference win. Dabrowski sank 11-of-20 shots from the field and also grabbed a game best 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Castleton held a pair of six-point leads in the opening half before taking a 23-21 advantage at intermission.
In the second half, Dabrowski hit a jumper that gave the hosts the lead for good at 26-25 with 16:33 remaining in the game.
WNEC upped its margin to seven points three times before the Spartans cut the lead to 41-36 following two free throws by sophomore forward Laura Cary at the 7:50 mark.
Western New England College then went on a 12-2 run highlighted by a pair of three-pointers by senior guard Tiffany DeRosa (her only baskets of the night) for a commanding 54-38 lead with 2:04 left in the game.
Ketchen went 8-for-12 from the field, incuding 5-7 from beyond the three-point stripe. She also collected seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Cary finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Western New England evens its record at 4-4, and is off until after the semester break. Castleton returns to action on December 8 at 1:00 pm at Bay Path College in its North Atlantic Conference opener. [Box Score]
