Castleton skates to 2-2 tie with Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Rutland, VT-The Castleton State College women’s ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Massachusetts Institute of Technology in ECAC East action.

Castleton goes to 5-13-4 overall and 4-9-4 in conference play. The Engineers pick up their third point of the weekend with the tie as their record goes to 1-15-2 overall and 1-14-2 in the ECAC East.

MIT opened the scoring 9:04 into the game as Lauren Kazmierski tallied her second goal of the season off a Stephanie Brenman assist.

Castleton applied the pressure right out of the gate in the second period, scoring just 25 seconds in as senior Sarah Pearson scored her first goal of the season in the final home game of her career. Pearson’s goal was assisted by Castleton captain Adrianna Riggio. The Spartans found the net once again in the second period as Katelyn Greene scored off a Pearson assist with 4:32 remaining. For the period Castleton outshot its guests 22-4 and held a 48-29 advantage overall.

It appeared Greene’s goal would stand up, but with 30 seconds remaining in the game, Sara John found the net for the equalizer off an assist from Kazmierski.

MIT goalie, Rachel Bowens-Rubin stopped 46 shots, while Castleton’s Kalla Robb (16) and Vanessa Carter (11) combined for 27 saves on the day.
