Castleton takes down Ramapo 17-6 on the road
Mahwah, NJ-Stephanie Pearce tallied a game-high five goals and passed out one assist to lead Castleton State College to a 17-6 win over Ramapo College in women's lacrosse action.
Freshman, Ashley Asker had five assists and one goal in equalling Pearce's point output, while Nicole Adams and Nicole Bouchard each had three goals and one assist. Marie VanDerKar added three goals, and DeeDee Schroeder and Nicole Sanders each chipped in one to round out the Castleton scoring.
The Spartans raced out to an 11-2 halftime lead, out-shooting their guests 21-7 over the opening 30 minutes. Pearce scored three of her five goals, while Bouchard and Adams each had two as Castleton opened the game on a 9-0 run. Ramapo's Sarah Clayton stopped the run with 7:08 remaining in the half, but the game was well in hand at this point.
It was more of the same in the second half as Castleton scorede five unanswered goals and led 16-2 with just over 15 minutes remaining. Ramapo answered with four out of the last five goals, but it was not enough as Castleton improves to 3-2 on the season.
Jenna Pfarr led the 0-4 Roadrunners with two goals and two assists, while goalie Megan Tierney stopped six shots in the loss.
Meredith Pope had two first-half saves, while Francesca stopped four second-half shots in the win for the Spartans. Castleton returns to conference action this weekend with a pair of NEWLA contests in Western Massachusetts. The Spartans will take on Westfield State Saturday afternoon at 1:00, followed by a 2:00 pm draw with Elms College on Sunday.
