Castleton falls to Mount Ida 1-0

Castleton, VT-In a game that could go a long way towards determining playoff seeds, Mount Ida survived a very closely contested battle. For nearly 86 minutes neither team could gain an advantage as both teams played excellent in the defensive third.

With less than five minutes remaining the Mustangs put together a surge on the offensive end that generated a corner kick. Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional) lined up to take it and the ensuing cross was knocked out of bounds of Castleton, resulting in a second corner kick. This time however, Andrea Wheeler (Harwinton, CT/Lewis Mills) was called upon from her defensive position to strike the ball. Strike it she did, and it ended up on Lorenco’s right foot for a one-timer goal and the game winner.

Earning the shut-out with but one save was Kyle Garvey (Queensbury, NY/Lake George Central). Kim Allen (Newtown, CT/ Newtown) also made one save in the loss. With the win Mount Ida improves to 10-6 (8-3 NAC) and is back in action on Wednesday, October 18 when they travel to Curry College for a 6:00 PM game. Castleton falls to 8-6-2 (6-3-1 NAC) and will play host to Middlebury College on Wednesday at 3:30 PM. [Box Score]
