Castleton doubles up Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 4-2

Castleton, VT-Castleton State College scored a pair of goals in the first half and followed up with another pair in the second to take home their third straight win. Tracy Stala (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) tallied two goals and two assists to lead the offense, while Brean Farquaharson (Westmoreland, NH/Keene) scored the game winner and added one assist to help aid the victory.

Stala opened the scoring in the 20 th minute, when she rebounded a shot by Farquharson off from MCLA keeper, Ashley Collins (Rochester, MA), and sent it home. Less than two minutes later the Trailblazers answered when Harmony McGorman (Orleans, MA/Nauset Regional) scored the first of her two goals off from a Lisa Merrill (East Windsor, NJ/Highstown) assist. In the 26 th minute Stala scored her second goal of the game and fifth of the season unassisted to give the Spartans a 2-1 halftime lead. Farquharson tallied her goal 1:29 into the second half to give Castleton a cushion, but four and a half minutes later McGorman pushed home her fifth goal of the year to bring the Trailblazers back to within one. Freshman, Sarah Reaber-Spina (Starksboro, VT/Mt. Abraham Union), notched her fifth goal of the season to put the game out of reach in the 58 th minute of play.

Kim Allen (Newtown, CT/ Newtown) was tested all day and stopped 11 shots to earn the win. Castleton improves to 4-2-1 and is back in action on Saturday, September 23 when they play host to U. Maine-Farmington at 3:00 PM as part of Castleton’s Alumni/Homecoming Weekend. The Trailblazers fall to 2-3-1 with the loss and will travel to Westfield State College on Saturday for a 1:00 PM game.
