Women's Soccer: Norwich 1 Castleton State 1 2OT
Northfield, VT - The Cadets and the Spartans battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Howard Field in the season opener for both teams. It marked the second straight year that both NU and CSC finished in a deadlock as last year's meeting in a scoreless tie.
Norwich got on the board first in the 34th minute when junior Lauren Pacelli found the back of the net off the assist of freshman Dawn McNulty. The Cadets held the Spartans at bay for a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Castleton evened the game at one apiece in the 83rd minute as junior Tracy Stala (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) scored with freshman Sarah Reaber-Spina (Starksboro, VT/Mt. Abraham Union) providing the assist.
Norwich finished with 20 shots on goal, while Castleton logged six shots on goal. CSC goalie Kim Allen ( Newtown, CT/ Newtown) logged 20 saves on the day, while NU netminder Tracey Breault made five saves.
Norwich will return to action on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when Worcester State invades Howard Field. Castleton will be back on the field on Sunday afternoon for its home opener against Plattsburgh at 12:00 noon. [Box Score]
