Skidmore handles Castleton 5-0
Castleton, VT – Skidmore College’s Jennifer Hibbard (Dedham, MA/ Dedham) scored the first two goals of her young career as the Thoroughbreds rolled to a 5-0 victory over host Castleton State College. Skidmore out-shot and out-cornered the Spartans 37-1 and 6-1 respectively.
Erica Coolbaugh (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) got the scoring started in the 30 th minute when she scored her first career goal off a Rachel Sushner (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) cross. Hibbard would find the net nearly nine minutes later, assisted by Aimee Marceau (Colchester, VT/ Colchester). The first half would end 2-0, with Castleton’s lone highlight coming from the excellent play of freshman keeper, Micole Bellimer (Hartland, VT/Windsor). In her first career start, Bellimer made six first half saves and 13 for the contest. The Thoroughbreds tacked on a trio of goals in the second half, beginning 3:20 in when Laura Flynn (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) scored her first goal of the season. Anna Cerio (Alfred, NY/Afred-Almond Central) found the net for the fourth time this season at 51:34 and Hibbard capped the scoring at 69:59.
Sara Stokey (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth Academy) made an extraordinary save on the only shot she faced off from a head-ball by Tracy Stala (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet). With the win Skidmore improves to 5-1-3, while Castleton falls to 5-4-1. The Thoroughbreds are back in action on Saturday, September 30 when they play host to Russell Sage at 12:00 PM. The Spartans are also off until Saturday, when they travel to Maine Maritime Academy for a 3:00 PM North Atlantic Conference match-up. [Box Score]
