Castleton falls to Husson 4-0 in battle of NAC unbeatens

Castleton, VT – The Castleton State College women’s soccer team lost for the first time in North Atlantic Conference play, falling to Husson College 4-0 at Alumni Field.

The Eagles poured on three first half goals to set the tone early. Katie Nickerson scored her first goal of the season after Meredith Homer made the action happen in the 19th minute. Homer stole the ball in her defensive third and carried from the middle all the way up the right sideline before serving the cross to Nickerson who settled and struck the game-winner.

Amy Sans scored just over 18 minutes later off a Megan Clement assist and Husson never looked back. Samantha Homer tacked on her first goal of the season after a pass was deflected in her direction and she one-touched just inside the far post in the 41st minute of play.

Castleton had a pair of early chances, but could not find the touch as Husson’s defense remained solid throughout.

Nickerson would send one more home in the second-half for good measure of a Megan LaJoie assist. Tatyana Wolterbeak stopped three shots in the shut-out for 4-4-1 (2-0 NAC) Husson. Castleton’s Nakita Baldic took the loss after taking over early on for Micole Bellimer who left with an injury. Baldic stopped four shots as Castleton falls to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Skidmore College for a 4:00 pm game. Husson will play host to Becker College on Saturday in a 3:00 pm conference game. [Box Score]
