Castleton defeats Thomas 4-1, looks to finish strong at Maine-Farmington

Waterville, ME-The Castleton State College women's soccer team received a pair of goals and an assist from freshman Ashley Ledoux as the Spartans easily dispatched Thomas College 4-1. On the horizon is a showdown with NAC Unbeaten, Maine-Farmington (9-0). A win would force a three-way tie between Castleton, Husson and Farmington for the top-spot in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference Tournament.

The Spartans fell behind early as Thomas' Sophia Mansora gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play.

Ledoux would take it from there.

The freshman scored in the 13th minute to tie the score, then would give Castleton the lead for good in the 23rd minute.

Classmate, Julianna Dorsey staked the Spartans to a 3-1 halftime lead with an unassisted tally in the 35th minute.

Just over one minute into the second half, senior Tracy Stala converted a Ledoux assist for Castleton's final goal.

All three Castleton keepers (Micole Bellimer, Nakita Baldic and Cady Kerin) saw time in net, with Bellimer facing the only shots on goal, stopping one and allowing the early goal.

Lindsay Thornton made 10 saves for the 8-7-2 (1-7-1 NAC) Terriers.

Both teams are back in action on Sunday, Castleton at Farmington, Thomas hosting Johnson State. [Box Score]
