Elms College defeats Castleton State College 3-1

Castleton, VT-Castleton came out firing in the opening game, winning 30-28 behind the strong play of freshman, Jamie Lemieux ( Fort Edward, NY/Argyle Central). The Blazers answered right back, sweeping the next three games 30-16, 30-24, 30-20 on their way to their first North Atlantic Conference victory of the young season.

Leading the way for the 2-2 (1-0 NAC) Blazers was freshman, Melissa Clark ( Chicopee, MA/Chicopee Comprehensive) with 11 kills. Samantha Sitek ( Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) was also very impressive, amassing nine kills, four aces and eight digs. Setter Kimberley Phillips ( Randolph, MA/Blue Hills Regional) had a very solid match with 31 assists to go along with five kills, six aces and 12 digs. Castleton’s Lemiuex finished with 10 kills, three assists and seven blocks (five solo).

Both teams were back in action directly after with the Blazers taking on Lyndon State College and the Spartans battling it out with NAC foe, Becker College at 3:00 PM in Castleton. [Box Score]
