The Goal of the Emerging Leaders Class of 2005:
The Class of 2005 set a goal for themselves to raise enough money to improve the amphitheatre that is outside the Campus Center. Members of Emerging Leaders 2005 have been fundraising, recruiting new members, and encouraging Castleton students to become leaders. They have the help of Victoria Angis, Assistant Dean of Campus Life, Art DeLorenzo (a Castleton alumni), and their class advisor, Judy Meloy.
Fundraisers:
 - Car wash
- 50/50 raffle at the Diamond Run Mall
- Flower sales at the 2004 Commencement
- Silent Auction held at the 2004 Fall Festival
- Raffle for an autographed Miami Heat basketball at men's and women's home basketball games
- Selling "I support Castleton" static-cling window decals at athletic games and special events
- Designing and selling a senior t-shirt
- Selling engraved bricks and plaques that will be in the
future amphitheatre
- Bake Sale on St. Patrick's Day in the Campus Center
- Care Packages to be distributed the week before finals

Each Emerging Leader group has a Castleton alumni to facilitate, mentor, and support the group. The class of 2005 is mentored by Arthur (Art) E. DeLorenzo.
Art was born and raised in the greater New York City area and graduated from Ridgewood High School in Bergen County, New Jersey. He graduated from Castleton in 1964 with a B.S. in education with a concentration in Physical Education. He earned a Master's degree from Ithaca College in 1966. Art and his wife live in Clifton Park, New York and Martha's Vineyard. They have four children (34, 31, 23, and 21) and a 2 1/2 grandchildren. |
In 1968 Art joined American Express where he is now a Group Vice President with responsibilities for Upstate New York.
Art joined the Castleton Alumni Association Board of Directors in August 2000. In his words, "The foundation provided to my family and me by Castleton has made a pronounced impact on our lives. This debt is in need of repayment and that is why my energy s directed toward the work we are undertaking."
Art presented the keynote address to the Class of 2005 during New Student orientation in August 2001, when he recounted his experiences as a member of the Castleton's national championship soccer team. |
