THE ROBERT T. STAFFORD CIVIC ENGAGEMENT FELLOW
The Center for the Support and Study of the Community has the opportunity this year to appoint it’s first Robert T. Stafford Civic Engagement Fellow. This years’ appointee is Sociology Professor Paul Derby. As a Civic Engagement Fellow, Professor Derby will organize campus community members interested in meeting and/or working together to enhance civic engagement and sustainability opportunities at Castleton. His other duties will include:
- coordinating and facilitating a monthly roundtable discussion on service-learning, civic engagement and campus sustainability
- scheduling campus-wide workshops, events and lectures
- submitting one or more service-learning articles to an appropriate publication and/or make a presentation at one national conference
- mentoring new faculty interested in developing civic engagement initiatives and/or service-learning courses
- teaching a service-learning course
“Paul’s involvement in service-learning, civic engagement and campus sustainability makes him the perfect choice for this new and exciting position”, states Chrispin White, Director of The Center. “His passion, enthusiasm and commitment to community issues will assist The Center in increasing the awareness of it’s community initiatives, as well as helping provide a broader platform for student, faculty and staff voices.”
