The Community Service Club is run by student volunteers and was created to perform community service projects for both the college and the surrounding community. The club engages in a range of service activities, from organizing campus food drives and building houses with Habitat for Humanity, to spending time with children and the elderly in the Castleton community.
The Community Service Club is always looking for hardworking and caring new members to bring their unique talents and interests to the club. 2006-07 Service Projects
Helped build affordable housing with Habitat for Humanity in Burlington and Bondville, VT.
Operated booths at the Student Association’s Halloween Party for Castleton children.
Box City Homelessness Awareness Project and Stuff-the-Van Food Drive: Worked with the
Social Issues Club to organize a homelessness awareness project and food drive to benefit local food shelves.
Cooked dinners and ate with residents at Dismas House, a transitional housing program for ex-prisoners.
Led craft activities for elderly residents at Misty Heather Morn.
Served lunch at the Open Door Mission, a soup kitchen/homeless shelter in Rutland.
Led service-related craft activities for middle school students at Castleton Village School.
Spoke to Fair Haven Union High School students about the benefits of attending college.
Club members also mentored students on an ongoing basis.
Spring Break Service Trip to New York City:
Volunteered at a food shelf serving people living with HIV/AIDS and at a day care center in a women’s shelter.
Organized end-of-semester textbook drives to benefit literacy initiatives in the US and Africa.

Better World Books: A nonprofit organization that capitalizes on the value of donated college books to support literacy initiatives around the world.
Dismas House of Rutland: Supportive transitional housing program for ex-prisoners.
Habitat for Humanity: An international nonprofit organization that builds affordable housing for low-income families to purchase at cost.
Heifer International: An international nonprofit organization dedicated to ending world hunger using sustainable solutions.
Local Community Food Shelves: including Castleton Food Shelf, Fair Haven Concerned, and Poultney Food Shelf.
Misty Heather Morn: Residential community for the elderly located in Hydeville.
Nature Conservancy: Nonprofit conservation organization located in West Haven.
Open Door Mission: Soup kitchen and homeless shelter serving Rutland.
Partners in Health: International nonprofit dedicated to providing health care options to the poor.
Project Hospitality: A network of shelters with soup kitchens, food shelves, and other services assisting people living with HIV/AIDS in Staten Island, NY.
Rutland County Humane Society: Nonprofit that helps animals in Rutland County.
Women in Need: A network of women’s shelters in New York City.
