What is the VSC Library Catalog?
The VSC Library Catalog is the online catalog of materials in the following Vermont State College libraries:
- Castleton State College library
- Johnson State College library
- Lyndon State College library
- Vermont Technical College and Community Colleges of Vermont library
- Books
- Videos and videodiscs
- Government documents
- Periodical titles
- Music and spoken recordings (compact disks, LP's, cassettes)
- Computer software
- Music scores
- Special Collections
- Maps and atlases
Using the VSC Library Catalog to Search (Connect to VSC Library Catalog)
The VSC Library Catalog is a user friendly system. Most users are able to find what they need by following directions on the screens. Four search capabilities that you might find especially useful are:
- Word Search - Search significant keywords in the title, subject headings,
contents notes, and author. Combine terms with AND, OR and NOT, and use nesting
( ). Use $ for truncation.
- global warming AND forests
- counseling OR psychotherapy
- Apartheid NOT South Africa
- counsel$ picks up: counseling, counselor, counselors
- counseling OR psychotherapy) AND adolescents
- limit function - Restrict your search by material type (e.g. videotape, periodical), date, etc.
- Browse by order on shelf - View a list of related items in call number order as they would appear on the shelf by clicking on "Items on the Same Shelf" option in the Details Display.
- Show similar items - Find items by the same author or on the same subject by clicking on highlighted subject terms or author.
