Lindra White Moerdyk received the Bachelors
of Music Education from Drake University, and Masters of
Music from The University of Michigan.
From 1963-1973 Ms. Moerdyk was a bassoonist
in the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Kalamazoo
Woodwind Quintet. Ms. Moerdyk taught instrumental music in
the Kalamazoo Public Schools from 1962-1967, and at Proctor
Elementary in Vermont from 1984-86.
From 1977 to 1993 she was bassoonist
and contrabassoonist with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.
From 1992-1995 Ms. Moerdyk taught therapeutic music for kids
with special needs at the Vermont Achievement Center.
Active outside of music, Ms. Moerdyk
has also had a career in human services, as the head of parent
education for the Rutland County Parent Child Center from
1987-1990, as a leader of parent education courses in many
locations in the Rutland region between 1987 and the present,
and as the Rutland County Regional Coordinator for Prevent
Child Abuse-Vermont in Montpelier from 1996-1999.
Presently - besides teaching Applied
Bassoon at Castleton State College - she is the Music Director
for the Shrewsbury Chamber Music Society and their “Summer
Music Week”, and also teaches general music for Fair
Haven Graded School, as well as maintains a studio of private
bassoon students.
