Court Gettel, flute, music theory

Court Gettel received his Bachelor of Music from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in flute performance, an M.A. in flute performance from the State University of Iowa School of Music, and, also from SUI, an M.F.A. in composition. He has studied flute with Marcel Moyse, Robert Willoughby, Betty Bang Mather, and Doriot Anthony Dwyer. He has performed extensively throughout the US with orchestras, ensembles and as a soloist, most recently with the Vermont Symphony, the Vermont Philharmonic, and the Northwinds Woodwind Quintet. He has appeared as recitalist and with many ensembles throughout Vermont.

As a music educator, he taught flute performance and music theory at Luther College and Idaho State University, and has maintained a private studio of flute students in Vermont since 1974. He was Chairman of the Music Department at Green Mountain College, teaching all music courses, directing the college vocal ensembles, as well as teaching photography. He has taught flute performance at Castleton since 1975. A versatile musician, he has also taught piano and guitar, and has subbed as an organist for many local churches.

In 1983 he entered Castleton as a student in the Computer Programming degree program, and received his A.S. degree with Highest Honors a year later, elected to the Alpha Chi Honor Society. He has worked as a computer programmer since then, most recently at Omya, Inc., in Proctor, Vermont.
