Saxophonist Jonathan Lorentz is a composer, arranger, and educator. Lorentz is currently working on a PhD at New York University. He has spent a great deal of time traveling the northeast developing a sound that combines influences of jazz, blues, salsa and the avant-garde. His compositions range from jazz, contemporary rock and hip-hop to sacred choral music. His most recent compositions were featured in the off Broadway show The Adding Machine. Lorentz placed first in the New York University jazz trio competition and recently toured Costa Rica with his award winning band. Lorentz has served on faculty at New York University, Marymount Manhattan College and Yeshiva University. He has also taught elementary and high school and continues to offer clinics and workshops to school communities. Jon currently teaches theory, instrumental methods, and conducts the jazz and wind ensembles here at Castleton.
