
Ronald Sherwin: Department Chair, Director of Choral Activities
Dr. Ronald Sherwin holds the BA in Music with a concentration in voice and choral conducting from Castleton State College. He went on to earn the MM in Choral Conducting and the PhD in Church Music and Education from the University of Maine where he studied under Dr. Dennis Cox. Prior to assuming his present position as Music Department Chair and Director of Choral Activities at Castleton State College, Dr. Sherwin taught at Bangor Theological Seminary, Eastern Maine Community College, and served as Minister of Music at First Congregational Church of Brewer, Maine.
Dr. Sherwin believes strongly in building community by uniting diverse ensembles for concerts, festivals, and tours. In 2002 Dr. Sherwin brought together church, seminary, and university choirs for a concert tour making stops in Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, and Budapest. In March of 2005 the Castleton Collegiate Chorale joined forces with The University of Maine Singers for a joint concert at the historic Castleton Federated Church in Castleton, Vermont.
The Castleton Student Association presented Dr. Sherwin with the 2005 Outstanding New Faculty award for his positive contribution to student life through his efforts to revitalize the music department by encouraging a sense of family.
In addition to the Castleton Collegiate Chorale, Dr. Sherwin has been conductor of the 90 voice University of Maine Collegiate Chorale, The Bangor Theological Seminary Choir, BTS European Festival Singers, and the choirs and ensembles of the First Congregational Church of Brewer Maine. Currently Dr. Sherwin serves as the Vermont College and University Standards Chair for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the College and University Chair for the Vermont chapter of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), and co-advises the colleges chapter of MENC. |
