May 7 at 4 p.m. in the Casella Theater, we will be recognizing outstanding students, faculty, and staff at the annual awards ceremony. In addition to the awards listed below, two new awards will be presented this year: the John Young Memorial Award and the Women's Studies Award for Excellence in Academics and Advocacy.
Baseball to Host NAC Final Round

Men's Tennis Wins NAC Title
Waterville, ME-The Castleton State College North Atlantic Conferencemen's tennis team won its third-consecutive North Atlantic Conference Championship, April 27, tallying 20 points in the flighted tournament. The Spartans have won four out of the last five tournaments, and finished the year unbeaten in conference play. (Full Article) |

Mentoring Program wins Governor's Award
The Vermont Commission on National and Community Service has selected Castleton’s mentoring program to receive a 2008 Governor's Award for Outstanding Community Service.
The 2008 Governor's Community Service Awards recognizes Castleton's Outstanding Mentors who have devoted much of their time and energy to improving the lives of 4th, 5th, 6th grade students at Castleton Elementary School.

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders will give the 2008 Commencement Address, May 17 at 2 p.m. on the Old Chapel Green. Information about Commencement 2008
Bernie Sanders was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006 after serving 16 years in the House of Representatives. He is the longest serving independent member of Congress in American history.

Theatre students attend annual technology conference in Texas
Theatre professors Steven Gross and Angela Brande and students Andrew Barber, Trevor Humphreys, and Kate Pierce recently attended the United States Institute of Theater Technology annual conference and stage expo in Houston. The annual conference is the largest event of its kind in the nation. It allows students and professionals the opportunity to meet others in their field from across the country, to see the state of national and international theatrical design, to witness the latest in industry technology, and to create and maintain contacts and explore employment opportunities.

Former Vermont governor Madeleine Kunin spoke in the Casella Theater at 12:30, Thursday, March 20.
She talked about her experiences and her latest book, Pearls, Politics and Power: How Women Can Win and Lead.
She advised young women, "Be curious, ask questions, and know how to find information."
"Read the newspapers -- read them online -- read them any way you want, but you have to know what's going on."
She said, "You've got to learn to believe in what you say and say it as if you believe it."
