Requirements for K-12 Teacher Licensure
1. To be accepted into Student Teaching, the student must:

Achieve a 3.0 GPA overall and receive a grade of “B” or better in methods classes
(PED 2410, 3070, and 3140) and a minimum 3.0 GPA average in the major; or written certification of intellectual competence by an academic dean. |
| b. |
Have completed all the Physical Education and Education coursework or permission of the coordinator of the Teacher Licensure Program. |
| c. |
Complete the Department of Physical Education Application to Student Teach form. |
| d. |
Students must receive a “Pass” on the Working Portfolios in PED 2410, 3070, and 3140. |
| e. |
Through related course work, completion of a minimum of 80 clock hours of supervised field experience. |
| f. |
Pass Praxis I, “Pre-professional Skills Test” in reading, writing, and mathematics, or recently adopted licensure testing alternatives. |
| g. |
Pass the ETS Praxis II physical education content examination. If the student does not earn a passing score on the Praxis II examination for physical education, the physical education program coordinator may permit the student to develop and submit a written plan outlining the strategies by which he or she intends to strengthen identified content area. This plan must be approved by the physical education program coordinator. |
2. To be recommended for licensure by the State of Vermont, a student must:
| a. |
Successfully complete and graduate from an approved program. |
| b. |
Receive a grade of “B” or better in Student Teaching I and Student Teaching II and a “pass” in PED 4720 Seminar. |
| c. |
Maintain a GPA of 3.0 and a B average (GPA of 3.0) in the field of major studies. |
| d. |
Meet the required standard for the licensure portfolio. |
| e. |
Exemplify in conduct and attitude the maturity, judgement, ethical standards, and dedication expected in the teaching profession. |
| f. |
Beginning in October of 2004, pass Praxis II examination in physical education
content knowledge, multiple choice or constructed responses essay.
