Frost Heaves owner visits
Alex Wolff, owner and general manager of the Vermont Frost Heaves and a writer for Sports Illustrated, spoke in the Old Chapel, April 10, 2007. His visit was arranged by Professor Craig Paiement of the Castleton sports administration program, which has established itself as an independent and growing major.
Wolff was introduced by student Shelby Sorrentino of Essex Junction, who interned with the Frost Heaves and played an important role in their game-day operations.
Wolff spoke about how he worked to make the Frost Heaves the “people’s team,” by hiring good players who also understood how to become part of a community.
He gave an insider’s appraisal of the type of basketball the Frost Heaves play.
His lecture was also of interest to business students and faculty as he discussed what it takes to achieve financial stability in a small-market.

Sports Administration
The Sports Administration concentration trains and develops students for employment in the sport industry.
The goal is prepare students for administrative positions in professional and amateur athletics, recreation, stadium, arena and convention facilities, college and university athletic departments, health and fitness centers, management companies, sports marketing and other programs that require a sports and business background.
Besides the interdisciplinary coursework, students will be required to serve an administrative internship in their senior year.
Students have served internships at a fitness center, college athletic office, area elementary school, and a college camps and conference office, indicating that this new concentration seems to be a popular addition already. Graduates of this program will be able to gain employment in this field at entry positions or as assistants.
