Helpful Hints for the CA Selection Process
APPLICATION
• Make sure the application is on time. No applications will be accepted late!
• Print clearly or type. This will be the initial impression you make to the Residence Life
 Selection Committee.
• Read through the entire packet thoroughly before completing the application.
• Make sure that all information is provided.
• If you are confused about any of the information ask a member of the selection committee
for clarification.
• Get help with your resume if you have never written one or are unsure if it is the best it can be. Resume workshops are being offered on Tuesday, February 5 and Wednesday,
February 6 at 6pm in the Campus Center Formal Lounge. If you cannot make it, contact
Judith Carruthers – Director of Career Development for assistance.
REFERENCES
• Choose people who know you well such as a faculty member or former employer.
• Make sure that you give your references the job description with the reference form. They
are asked to refer to the job description in their evaluation.
• Give your references plenty of time to complete the reference forms. References are due
the same day the applications are due.
• Feel free to check with the Office of Residence Life to see if we have received your
references. Questions should be directed to Christie Wilkerson.
• Follow up with your references and thank them once the forms are complete.
GROUP PROCESS
• Be yourself - this will be an opportunity for you to meet new people.
• There are no right or wrong answers, group process is an opportunity to interact with and
learn from others and about yourself.
• If you do not understand the directions, ask for further explanations.
• Relax and enjoy yourself!
INTERVIEW DAY
• Arrive on time - be sure you know where you are going.
• Expect to be interviewed by multiple Community Advisors and Area Coordinators.
• Each interview should last approximately 15-20 minutes.
• If you do not understand the question, ask the interviewer to rephrase the question.
• Come prepared with questions you would like to have answered as well.
• Dress appropriately – this is a job interview!
• Never had a job interview before? Attend an interviewing workshop on Tuesday,
Februrary 12 at 12:45pm or 6pm in the Campus Center Formal Lounge.
