ROOM SELECTION 2008-09

It is that time of year to start thinking about on campus housing at Castleton State College for next year.  In order to guarantee a room for the 2008-09 academic year you must pay a $100 room deposit and participate in the Room Selection process for 2008-09.  Room deposits are different from your tuition bill and are paid separately!  Room deposits are due at the Student Service Center in Woodruff Hall before Tuesday, April 8 at 4:00 pm.  Deposits must be paid in order to participate in this process, but are accepted only if your bill is paid in full.  If you pay your room deposit late, you will be placed on the priority list, but after those who paid on time and with limited rights during participation as described below.

THE ROOM SELECTION PROCESS

You have several options for choosing a room.  You may select your room by doing either #1 or #2 below.  If you wish to change the room you have selected, or have not chosen to participate in #1 or #2, you may participate in the Open Room Selection (#3).  It is not required to do steps #1 or #2 in order to participate in #3.

  1. “squat” your current room, either with your current roommate, or a new roommate if your roommate doesn’t plan to stay or…
  2. move to a new room within the current building and/or…
  3. move to another building (Open Room Selection).

Squatting - On Monday, April 14 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in the Campus Center Multipurpose Room, you can choose to squat your room.  Squatting means you will continue to occupy your current room next year.  You can keep your room if you paid your deposit by the April 8 deadline, and received a priority number.  If your current roommate does not squat with you, a new roommate can be brought into the room.  However, the roommate must have paid a room deposit by the April 10 deadline and been assigned a priority number.

Moving Within Your Building – On Tuesday, April 15 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in the Campus Center Multipurpose Room, you can choose a different room than the one you currently occupy, depending on the available space.  Open rooms within the hall will be allocated based on a first come first serve basis.  You can bring in a roommate at this time if both of you have paid a deposit by the April 8 deadline, each been assigned a priority number, and the building has not reached 60% occupancy.

Open Room Selection - On Thursday, April 17 beginning at 9:00 pm in the Campus Center Multipurpose Room, all remaining open rooms will be available by priority number as long as the hall population has not exceeded 60% occupancy.  Priority numbers will be called in order.  When your number is called, you can choose a room with a roommate. Both of you must have paid a room deposit by the April 8 deadline and been assigned a priority number.  If you do not have a roommate to sign up with, you will first be required to fill half-full rooms.  Those in remaining half-full spaces will be assigned a roommate.  Students who paid their housing deposit late will begin choosing from open space on this night after the last number of those paying on time is announced in priority list order.

PRIORITY LIST

The priority list will be used to determine the order in which students can choose rooms.  Students who have paid their housing deposit on time, currently live on campus, who are considered in “good academic standing” (not on academic probation) will be ranked by number of credits completed through the fall semester 2007.  The person who has completed the greatest number of credits will have the highest priority for selection.  Next are off-campus students who paid their deposits on time and are in good academic standing, then all students who are not in good academic standing but paid their deposits on time.  Students who have paid their deposits after the deadline will then be allowed to choose from any remaining open space as long as the 60% occupancy of all buildings has not been met.  Students with disciplinary sanctions past due will not receive a priority number.  The priority list will be posted in the Campus Center on the window of the Game Room Friday, April 11 at 4:00pm.

NEW STUDENT AS ROOMMATE

If you wish to choose a new incoming student as a roommate, you must put their name on the housing application form and they must place your name on their housing form.  The new student must have already been accepted and have paid their deposit.

HOUSING ACCOMODATIONS

If you know you will need special housing accommodations please contact the Office of Residence Life in the Campus Center.

“I CAN NOT ATTEND ROOM DRAW – NOW WHAT?”
If you cannot attend the Room Draw process you may send a “proxy”.  You can obtain a proxy form from the Office of Residence Life in the Campus Center or download one here.  Just sign and give it to your proxy with your list of priorities in housing.  They will choose a room for you.  You will need to sign the housing contract the day following at the Office of Residence Life, and verify your proxy’s choice.

WAITLIST
If the demand for rooms exceeds our limit of 60% occupancy of returning students, a waitlist will be started.
