The Old Chapel

The Old Chapel is the oldest building on the Castleton campus. It was built in 1821 on Main Street as the home of the Castleton Medical College.
Until its demise in 1862, the school conferred 1400 medical degrees, more than any other New England medical college of that time. The black & white photo of the building was taken in 1855.
The Old Chapel has served as classroom, dormitory, office, library, and chapel. It was restored in 1988 thanks to Alma Gibbs Donchian, Castleton Class of 1927.
Today the building is used for special meetings and performances. There is a medical museum on the first floor. |
